As host of the 2010 World Cup, only natural that the South African national team demands high achievers. But Bafana-Bafana has not considered the leader.

The opinion of the former South African striker, Shaun Bartlett, the 72 caps collector for the national team assesses that the current captain, Aaron Mokoena, less qualified.

“My biggest problem with this team is that I do not see any leaders. Long ago, captain Neil Tovey is, but we’ve got to seven players who can lead,” said Bartlett to kickoff.

“There’s a big question mark about Aaron because he does not play properly in Portsmouth,” Bartlett added that Charlton Athletic have strengthened again.

Mokoena did not bite with Portsmouth. 29 years old midfielder was just taken part in 14 of 27 matches in the English League Pompey. In fact, South Africa coach Carlos Alberto Parreira will only select players who compete regularly at the club.

“You must be fit and playing regularly. But we’ll wait to see if there will be exceptions (for Mokoena) or not,” said Bartlett, now 37-year-old.

“Steven Pienaar is our best player at the moment and I heard some people say he should be captain,” he concluded.
